About Us

Burton Joyce Community Church came into being on the 7th June 2014, as a local ecumenical project, with the village Methodist and United Reformed Churches joining together with Rev Malcolm Fife (of the URC) as Minister. Our main service is at 10.30 on a Sunday morning.

We are an elderly group, with a regular congregation of about 30.  We work with the other churches in the village, share united services with them, and we support each other in our community work. Just recently we have had a few young children wandering round during the services – and that has been very exciting for us! We are currently discussing introducing family services to our pattern of worship.

We recognise that our ministry is largely to the older members of the community – we have various Mobility and Stroke Club groups meeting on the premises, but we also have Brownies and Guides, a young choir / drama group and a toddlers group, and we do have them taking part in services on an occasional basis.  We aim to provide a space for socialising and fellowship, and hold a Cream Tea (free!) on the first Sunday of every month, and a weekly coffee morning, which is very popular with older people from the village and beyond, including several who have recently lost partners and who gradually build up new circles of friends as they (and their dogs!) are made welcome.  Our ladies groups, prayer groups and Bible discussion group and our coffee and craft group are open to all, and we have quite a few charity or fund-raising events on a Saturday, which provide other opportunities for coffee and chat.  We try to be aware of the needs of our particular community.
